Nest Building: Blue-Gray Gnatcatchers

Out walking through a local park, I saw two little birds flitting back and forth to a certain branch. I realized they were gnatcatchers and thought they might be building a nest. After watching them for several minutes, I realized they definitely were working on a nest. As you can see, this nest is made of spiderwebs lined with lichen. I wish I could say I’ll remember exactly where this nest is and keep an eye on it, but I know it will be hard to find again especially as the leaves continue to come in. The male blue-gray gnatcatcher is the one with the black eyebrow as you see in the first, third, and last picture. I feel very blessed to have watched this pair at work.

“Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O LORD of hosts, my King and my God.” Psalm 84:3

Best Bird Pictures August 22

I’m sure I could have added a few more pictures, but these are my favorites. The highlight of the month was having a photo-op with a barred owl. As you can see, I took quite a few pictures. He seemed as curious to watch me as I was enthralled with him. To see more of my pictures, follow me on Instagram. https://www.instagram.com/pmgilmer27/
